Priority sectors of Shaanxi province
January 9, 2018 Category Announcements, Weekly
The Foreign Affairs Department of Shaanxi Province has identified six priority sectors for development this year:
1. Modern chemistry: Shaanxi is China’s largest producer of coal, natural gas and oil combined. As the use of fossil fuel causes a lot of pollution, Shaanxi is exploring the clean use of fossil fuels. But the province cannot give up the exploitation of fossil fuel, given the large reserve and lack of enough renewable energy. Clean use of coal and coal chemistry, mainly coal to olefin, coal to methanol and coal liquidification, are to be developed.
2. Automobile industry: The Province’s goal is to manufacture 1.1 million cars by 2021,especially those powered by renewable energy, improving its place from 19th to 16th in China.
3. Advanced manufacturing (aerospace and aviation, advanced equipment, 3D printing): Historically, Xi’an is a military industry base of China. Now Shaanxi is working to integrate military into civil industries. It has a National Aviation Hi-tech Industrial Base, which features aircraft manufacturing and National Civil Aerospace Industrial Base, which aims to become a world-class base for commercial satellites. Shaanxi’s 3D printing is also doing very well, especially with metals like titanium. One company is very good at printing aircraft parts (e.g. wings) and is a supplier of Boeing and Airbus and China’s C919 passenger carrier.
4. New generation IT: The goal, by 2021, is to be a top 3 largest producer of integrated circuits in China, the world’s largest producer of monocrystalline PV panels, and the world’s 2nd largest producer of solar PV glass. The Province also aims for big data and flat panel display production.
5. New materials: The goal is to maintain the Province’s leading position in China of titanium, magnesium and molybdenum products, and to work on new products development and industrialization, extending the value chain to meet the demands from the advanced manufacturing sector.
6. Modern pharmaceuticals: Johnson & Johnson’s largest global supply chain is in Xi’an. Its history in Xi’an can be traced back to 1985 when its subsidiary, Belgium’s Janssen Pharmaceutica, built Xi’an Janssen. A national-level biological industry base and bio-pharmaceutical industry park are also under construction.
